Officials from the Ghana statistical service (GSS), Foli Edwin, Ismael Tetteh and Priscilla Addo have cautioned persons who refuse to answer or willfully neglects to answer any of the questions in connection with the ongoing population and housing census could be prosecuted if they give false information.
The 2021 Population and Housing Census commenced officially on Monday, June 28, 2021. The excercise, which will run till July 11, 2021, is meant to generate data that will be used in decision-making and planning for the development of the country. Ghana’s last census was held in 2010.
In an interview with Ohene Addo on Plan B FM ‘Nkosuo Nsem’, the Census officials asked the general public to cooperate with the enumeration officials who will visit their homes for the exercise and also desist from giving false information which could land them in trouble.
“This is a crucial exercise which seeks to provide comprehensive statistical data for national development. We are calling on every Ghanaian to be counted and to provide accurate and detailed information. Note that, it is a crime not to answer census questions or to give false information. You could be arrested and prosecuted”
“So we are appealing to all Ghanaians to cooperate with us so that we can have a successful 2020/2021 census because we all know why it was delayed from last year. So we have to ensure that it becomes successful to provide us with the information that we need for planning,” they remarked during the interview on Tema base Plan –B FM.
