President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed Ambrose Dery, Minister for the Interior to conduct a public inquiry into incidents and shootings which subsequently led to the death of two persons in Ejura in the Ashanti region on Tuesday, June 29.
In a press statement which is signed by Eugene Arhin, Ag. Director of Communications at the Presidency, the President has given the Minister, ten days to provide a detailed report of the inquiry.
The statement further pointed out that the Interior Minister is to provide a detailed report from the inquiry, with recommendations for appropriate action to be taken by July 9, 2021.
The statement from the Presidency follows the death of two persons and the injury sustained by other persons during a protest by the youth of Ejura Sekyedumase. In an attempt to disperse the youth of the area who were protesting the murder of a social media activist of the area, by security operatives clashed with the youth resulting in the deaths and injuries on Tuesday morning.
The atmosphere in the area turned charge resulting in the arrival of a police team in the area. A joint Police and Military team later accosted the agitated youth of the area who were demanding justice for late social activist Kaaka Mohammed who was murdered by some unknown persons.
According to the statement, the President is deeply saddened by the death of Ibrahim Mohammed, alias ‘Kaaka’ and the other two persons who died during the protest, namely; Abdul Nasir Yussif and Murtala Mohammed.
The statement add that the President extends sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
