Alban Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament has mentioned that a bill to stop the promotion of activities of LGBTQI+ in the Ghana is expected to be introduced in the Parliament this week.

The Speaker added that the bill barring any hitch will be passed before the end of 2021.

Addressing a gathering at a ceremony at the Christian Fellowship in Parliament, today, Tuesday, July 29, 2021. He noted that no amount of threats against Member(s) of Parliament (MPs) aimed at championing the bill will stop the Parliament from getting it approved.

“Good will always triumph over evil and all those threatening the MPs who are leading this bill, please be warned. We cannot be threatened in our homes.

“This must be stated loud and clear to those who have come to do business in Ghana, those who represent their country and think that they are right, we also represent our country and they would never and can never dictate to us how to live or not in this world,” the Speaker remarked.

He was optimistic that Parliament would pass the bill as soon as possible adding that he has gone through it and he was sure he will confirm what Sam George has said, that the bill would be a reference point for many countries. He continued that it is very detailed, very comprehensive and really a bill that Ghanaians can refer to as justice.

He told the gathering that the bill is done in accordance with all the provisions of the 1992 Constitution, the country’s laws and international obligations.

Commenting further, he explained that it is a law that even those who are against it would find it difficult not to accept it, and pointed out that he wants to assure all of them that Parliament would create room this week for the bill to be presented to them officially.

The Speaker who is the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nadowli Kaleo constituency said the bill will be referred to the appropriate committee and made to go through the process.

“We invite anybody who has anything to add to or take away to appear before the committee. Then, the committee would present the report and take you through all the stages for processing the bill, and In Sha Allah, it would be passed this year,” he said.

Concluding he commented that he knows that God would see Parliament through on this. He had this to say to persons thinking otherwise. “Those who are thinking otherwise, please, be advised. Some MPs who do not have the heart to go with us, don’t worry, we know about doubting Thomas’.

He told them that they would see the light, and urged them to follow the light. Assuring them, he noted that what they did was the right thing to do.
