An accident which occurred at Soko, a farming community in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region on Monday, June 7, 2021, around 7:45 am, is believed to have claimed eight lives.

Some persons who claimed to be eyewitnesses to the gory accident told Plan B FM that a Sprinter bus with registration number GT 4013-14 which was traveling from Kumasi collided with a tipper truck with registration number WR 1653-A.

Declining to mention their names for reasons known to them, they narrated that the Sprinter buss, a commercial vehicle which was transporting passenger from Kumasi was speeding. They added that they believe the fast pace at which the bus was travelling compelled its driver to lose control of his wheel resulting in the accident.

According to them a mate to the driver of the tipper truck hit his head on the road when the two vehicles collided and quickly added that he died right there on the spot. They continued that the driver of the tipper truck somehow managed to escape unhurt.

One of them told Plan B FM that most of the casualties were passengers of the Sprinter buss, whose driver and mate as well as six other passengers did not survive.

The injured, according to the narrations of the persons who claimed were eyewitnesses, three of the passengers were all sent to a medical facility believed to be the St Patrick Government Hospital in Offinso South Municipality.

An Assembly-member for the area where the accident occurred, Soko Abroma Electoral Area, Akwasi Clement, who later visited the scene noted that he later called the National Ambulance Service to come to the aid of those involved in the accident. He urged drivers to be when driving their passenger to various destinations especially on that stretch adding that their safety and those of their passengers should be paramount to them.
