The National Identification Authority (NIA) has said that it has sighted a write up circulating on social media captioned “The NIA (National Identification Authority) has begun their registration exercise again.”
In a statement issued by the Client Service Unit, the NIA stated that it disassociates itself from that statement and urge the general public to disregard same.
It continued that mass registration ended in September, 2020 and added that it has moved into continuous registration phase. This process according to the NIA started in April, 2021 with the co-location of 14 registration centres at GRA offices across the country.
The NIA’s statement continued that the 14 GRA/NIA centres is free and Ghanaians can attest to that fact. It further stated that the Authority is currently working to establish Regional and District offices across the country in June, 2021.
It wishes to reiterate that first registration of the Ghana Card is free in line with government policy which has not changed. “When NIA duly establish it Regional and District offices, registration at all the Districts and Regional offices across the country shall be free,” part of the NIA statement stated.
The statement continued that under the fees and charges (miscellaneous provisions) instrument, 2019 which was duly passed by Parliament, NIA is mandated to institute and collect certain fees and charges for some services rendered.
The NIA mentioned the registration of foreigners, updates of personal records, replacements of lost and damaged cards, household registration, card renewal and expedited service (premium) as some of the services it renders.
On how much some of these service cost, the NIA mentioned that registration of foreigners – cedis equivalent of USD $120.00, replacement GH¢30.00, update of personal record – GH¢30.00.
It mentioned the rest as follows renewal – GH¢30, and expedited service as GH¢250.
It concluded by stating that the public should take note that the NIA works from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and from Monday to Friday at all of its offices and registration centres.
