E/R: Five perish in Obretema accident

Five people died in a fatal accident at Obretema near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region Sunday.

Reports gathered indicated that a driver identified as Eric Ohemang, 35, with his Mercedes Sprinter bus with registration number GW 7444-21 with passengers on board was heading to Accra from Kumasi however on reaching Obretema the offside rear Tyre of the vehicle suddenly burst while the vehicle was speeding.

The driver lost control of the steering wheel causing the vehicle to summersault.

Three male and two female adults who were on board the bus died on the spot.

The injured victims including the driver were rushed to Suhum Government Hospital for treatment while the bodies were removed and sent to the same hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy.

The acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command Sergeant Francis Gomado confirmed the accident.

He said the accident vehicle has been towed to Suhum Police station for testing.

He said the suspect driver will be arrested to assist investigation when discharged from the Hospital.
