The Ghana Registered Nurses’ and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA), has asked government to reinstate the COVID-19 tax waivers that were given to frontline health workers in the height of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
In April last year, President Akufo-Addo announced allowances for all frontline health workers; specifically 50% of their basic salaries.
In addition, they were given a three-month tax holiday, which was extended in August to cover the months of July, August and September 2020.
Speaking on Plan B FM, morning show dubbed “Nkosuo Nsem” the Public Relations Officer of GRNMA; Mr. Joseph Krampah said the reinstement of the tax waiver package will encourage Nurses’ and Midwifes ‘to continue making sacrifices to the country in this difficult times.
“We are appealing to the government to come to our aid. We’ve run out of PPE’s which is making our work so difficult.” He said
“Most of our people in the Eastern, upper East, Upper west regions and even Komfo Anogye teaching Hospital are in dire need of PPE’s to help in the fight against the disease. Right now I can confidently tell you that we use our own monies to buy the PPE’S which is having a toll on our finances,” He lamented.
“We are grateful to gov’t for the tax waivers he gave us last year, we are calling on the gov’t to reinstate the tax waivers so that in case we run out of PPE’s we can rely on it and purchase some with that,” He concluded.
