Dr. Albert Eshun, Director in-charge of Covid-19 Response Unit at the Asamankese Government Hospital in the Eastern region has encouraged the public not to worry over the safety and efficacy issues concerning vaccines for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which is set to be rolled out by the government next month.
There have been doubts by Ghanaians as to whether the vaccines are actually safe, given the rapid pace of development, and whether possible side effects have been adequately studied.
Speaking on Plan B FM morning show ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ Dr. Eshun said there is no cause for alarm and uncertainties because all the necessary safety and efficient arrangements had been instituted to ensure that only vaccines that had been tested and approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) will be procured for use on the Ghanaian Population.
“There are so many misconceptions about the vaccines, with people saying they cause genetic mutation and affect one’s sperms, while others say it is the mark of the beast that is the 666 and a whole lot of things. As it stands now, those are myths; they are not true,” he said.
“The Vaccine is coming to prepare the immune system to be able to fight against the virus. This is not the first time we are importing vaccines from abroad, so am surprised people are unwilling to take this one” He concluded
He also advised the public to eat balanced diet and consume our local foods to stay strong and boost the immune system.
