The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Tema Divisional branch has advised Ghanaians especially taxi drivers that daily maintenance checks on vehicles helps to prevent unexpected fire outbreaks.
According to Station Officers 2; Adugu Saviour and Ohene Agyei, in an interview on Plan B Fm morning show dubbed ‘Nkosuo Nsem’, good maintenance practices and regular servicing of vehicles can help reduce the chances of catching fire.
“The best way to prevent our vehicles and the life’s of others is to prevent fire altogether”
“We strongly recommend everyone to perform daily maintenance checks to help reduce the risk of fire outbreaks. This could be done by checking for fuel system leaks, electrical system failure, overheating of engines and spill oil or fluids”.
“This is very necessary if we want to reduce the chances of any firebreaks in our vehicles”.
The Officers also stated that, proper fire extinguishers should always be used to doused fire outbreaks. Frequent changing of fire extinguishers and checking for expiry dates of the equipment is very important.
“Fire extinguishers should be serviced by an approved company to guarantee they have been inspected by a certified engineer. By servicing and maintaining all the different extinguishers you have in your car, you can ensure the safety of your vehicle and the people on board”
“Fire extinguishers are usually sitting around for years on end before use, leaving them prone to rusting and weakening. In addition to this, you may not realise when someone has tampered with an extinguisher”
