EC Denies Burning Of 1 Million Ballot Papers

The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the general public to disregard media reports that claim the Electoral Commission has burnt some 1 million ballot papers.

The EC in a statement said what was burned was waste from shredded damaged ballot papers and the printing plates which was done with the express knowledge and consent of all political parties.

According to the statement sighted by Plan B FM, it disclosed that seven local printing houses were engaged to print the 2020 presidential and parliamentary ballot papers.

“After such a massive printing exercise, there is always waste or damaged ballots which are shredded by each printing house in the presence of political party agents.” the statement read.

The Commission in the statement added that, it is shocked as to what would motivate it to clandestinely print one million ballots only to burn them in broad daylight and in the presence of officials of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Bureau of National Investigations, Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service and political party representatives.

In concluding the statement, the EC asked media houses to be circumspect and also, be guided accordingly in their reportage as the general elections draw closer.
