Sudan Scores At Death To Deny Ghana Early AFCON 2021 Qualification

Sudan produced a fantastic performance, which finally paid off with a late Mohammed Abdelrahman header to hand the North Eastern African country a crucial win over the Black Stars of Ghana in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers in Omdurman.

The Black Stars failed to create any clear- cut chance in the entire game, lacking ideas in the final third, and also missing the services of Captain Andre Ayew who was ruled out due of injury.

A win or draw would have sealed qualification for Ghana to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with two games to spare but the team will now have to wait until the next round of qualifiers in March 2021 when they face South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.

In the match, Sudan looked more threatening, lively and eager for the three points. Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda made a magnificent save to deny the Sudanese an early lead in the first half, coming off his line to keep the game and the Black Stars hopes of early qualification alive. The first half ended with neither side creating enough opportunities to take the lead.

With the Sudanese lacking a cutting edge, it appeared the Black Stars had lost interest and felt a draw would be enough to secure a ticket to Cameroon until Sudan scored in the 92nd minute with Mohammed Abdelrahman rising highest to meet Ramadan Agab’s cross from the right flank.

Despite the loss, Ghana still sit atop Group C with nine points and with two games left to play.
