Life Line Consumers Main Beneficiaries Of 50% Covid Relief Package – ECG

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Tema region has revealed that, lifeline customers are the main target and beneficiaries of the government’s 50% free electricity relief package for the rest of the year. This is according to Madam Ruhiya Fuseini, who is the Marketing Officer of  ECG Tema Region.

President Akufo Addo as part of measures to mitigate the effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic announced in April a reduction in electricity tarrifs for the citizenry.

In an interview with Plan B FM, Madam Fuseini, said the free electricity tariff announced by government is to help lifeline persons who consume zero (0) to fifty (50) kilowatt-hours a month.

“The COVID electricity subsidy has been fully absorbed by the government and all lifeline customers who consume between zero (0) and fifty (50) units within a month are entitled to this relief fund”

“For other consumers; that is the commercial, government and residential, the government did absorb 50% percent of their electricity bill using March as a benchmark.”

“For example, if your electricity bill was One Hundred Cedis (GH₵ 100), you will pay only GH₵ 50 with government absorbing the remaining Fifty Cedis (GH₵ 50) with the aim of supporting industry and enterprises.” Madam Fuseini said.
