Real Madrid have announced Eder Militao has tested positive for coronavirus ahead of their Champions League clash with Inter Milan.
The 22-year-old, who has featured regularly in Zinedine Zidane’s squad this season, will now undergo a mandatory period of self-isolation.
The club revealed that, with the exception of Militao, no other positive results were recorded from the latest round of testing.
A statement from Madrid said: ‘Real Madrid C. F. would like to inform that our player, Eder Militao, has tested positive in the COVID-19 tests carried out yesterday, Sunday morning.
‘All the other players and the technical staff from the first team, as well as all the employees of the club who work directly with them, tested negative in that same test.
‘The club would like to confirm once again that everyone, with the exception of Eder Militao, tested negative in the antigen tests carried out that same morning.’
Marca reported on Sunday that one player from the Madrid squad had contracted the virus – although the identity of the star was not known at the time of publication.
It has now been revealed that the player is centre back Militao, who joined the club from Porto for £43million last year.
The second round of testing was held shortly after the positive result surfaced
