Kim Lars Bjorkegren has been unveiled as the new head coach of the Black Queens in a ceremony in Accra. This appointment marks a new chapter for the team, following the departure of former coach Nora Hauptle.

In attendance were Executive Council Members Gideon Fosu and Samuel Aboabire. They were joined by General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, Technical Director, Professor Joseph Mintah and assistant coach Anita Wiredu Mintah.

Bjorkegren, a Swedish tactician, brings 18 years of coaching experience to the role, having previously coached in Sweden, China, and the United States of America. His impressive CV includes winning the Cyprus Women’s League with Apollon Ladies and the Swedish Damallsvenskan with Linköpings FC.

Executive Council member Gideon Fosu expressed confidence in Bjorkegren’s ability to lead the Black Queens to greater heights, citing his experience in Women’s football and his background in education and sports psychology as key assets.

Bjorkegren will soon travel with the team to Morocco for a 10-day tour where they will play an international friendly against the national team of Morocco and a club side in Casablanca. His focus will then shift to preparing the team for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scheduled for July 2025.
