A member of the Ken Agyapong Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mathew Kitcher, has accused the party’s Election Committee of allegedly creating about 3,500 ghost names in the party’s election register ahead of the January 31 presidential primaries.
Mr. Kitcher made the allegation during an interview with Ohene Kinnah on Plan B FM’s “Ebaanosen” programme. He claimed the purported irregularities were a deliberate attempt to rig the internal elections in favour of another aspirant, particularly former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He further raised concerns about an incident that occurred during the signing of the NPP peace pact, which was organised ahead of the primaries. The peace pact, signed by all five presidential aspirants, commits them to party unity, acceptance of the electoral process and its outcome, and ensuring that their supporters refrain from acts that could undermine peace within the party.
According to Mr. Kitcher Kennedy Agyapong, his candidate, raised objections during the signing ceremony after observing that a key clause previously agreed upon by all aspirants had been omitted from the document presented for signing.
He explained that the missing clause stipulated that voting centres should also serve as collation centres where results would be declared. Mr. Kitchner added that the aspirants were supposed to receive copies of the peace pact in advance to familiarise themselves with its contents, but this was not done.
He also stated that Mr. Agyapong is not corrupt and assured that his administration would be corruption-free should he be elected as the party’s flagbearer.
Additionally, Mr. Kitchner accused Dr. Bawumia of dishonesty and alleged that he has contributed to disunity within the party, urging delegates to vote against him in the upcoming primaries.
