Three bodies have been found burnt beyond recognition at Nanik in the Bunkprugu/Nakpanduri district of the North East Region, following a violent attack on Friday dawn in the community.

The three deceased included a 27-year-old teacher, Nashiru Maijida, a native of Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality.

The teacher was said to have been posted two years ago to the Nanik village.

The charred bodies have been conveyed and deposited in Binde Hospital awaiting autopsy.

The Nanik community was attacked this dawn by members of a rival faction in Bimbagu.

According to community members, nearly 50 houses have been burnt, and several other properties have been destroyed.

The two neighbouring communities have locked horns over the decision by traditional authorities to elevate the Chief of Nanik to paramountcy status.

Before this incident, the chiefs and people of Bimbagu in the Bunkprugu–Nakpanduri in North East region had appealed to National Security and the National House of Chiefs to stop the ongoing engagements to elevate a sub-divisional chief, Nanik Daana, to a paramountcy status.

The residents said they were opposed to the decision by the North East Regional House of Chiefs and the Mamprugu Traditional Council to promote the chief of Naniik.

At a press conference in Bimbagu, the chief and his people also warned the Naniik Daana not to ever step foot in Bimbagu if he’s elevated.
