A political science lecturer and analyst and a tax expert Mr. Clement Adu Acheampong has stated that it would be suicidal if the government introduced new taxes in the 2024 budget to be presented in parliament on 15th November,2023.

Speaking on Plan B FM morning show NKOSUONSEM hosted by Obidehye Kofi Sekyi, Mr. Adu stressed that we should all endure the current tax because the government needs money for developmental projects and if the government abolished some taxes, it will also put the government in a tight corner but introducing new taxes will deepen the plight of Ghanaians.

He noted that it is time to invest fully in our natural resources and benefit from 100% outcome or benefit because we have all the resources but the percentages the country receives from the gold, oil, bauxite, etc is peanut that always compel the government to resort to loans.

He explained, that the government’s inability to fight corruption and recoup the stolen and misappropriation of funds from government appointees is also another aspect that has crippled the country’s finances.
