A Ghanaian delegate, who was reported missing after the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, has been found and brought back to Ghana, according to Team Ghana’s Accreditation Liaison officer, Farida Iddriss.

United Kingdom Police made it public of persons yet to be found by their immigration which involved a Ghanaian, just days after the closing ceremony of the Games.

Eyebrows were raised as a similar circumstance happened four years ago in Australia, where two athletes – Gifty Mensah and Stella Amasah, were confirmed by the Badminton Association of Ghana to have run away from camp as they did not return with the contingent.

But the recent issue was quickly dismissed by Farida, who played an instrumental role in getting all delegates to Birmingham.

“[A delegate] He did not run away but he got lost so he arrived in Ghana on 14th August via Qatar Airways,” Farida said in an exclusive interview with JoySports.

“It’s one of the coaches. He got lost. I think he was going out for shopping and he couldn’t find his way but we’ve been able to bring him back. Everyone has arrived at their final destination.”

The next Commonwealth Games in four years is scheduled to take place in four cities across Australia.

Team Ghana ended the 2022 edition with five medals, coming from the boxing as well as track and field events.

Abraham Mensah, Abdul Wahid Omar and Joseph Commey delivered medals in the boxing discipline while Joseph Paul Amoah put in his all to secure a medal from the Games.

Acquah finished third in the Women’s Long Jump after a leap of 6.94m to win bronze while also setting a new national record. Omar and Joe Paul were the other bronze medalists with the latter’s medal coming after he finished third in the 200m final with a time of 20.49s.
