Following an invitation from the House to present its Road Map for a stable and effective election of 2020, the Electoral commission (EC) has proposed Saturday, November 07, 2020 for a Parliament appearance.
The Electoral commission (EC) has denied claims of snubbing parliament on Thursday, November 6, 2020.
The Commission explained that it received the invitation from the August House late on Wednesday and rejected claims that it deliberately refused to honour the invitation by the law-making body.
In a release sighted by PLAN B FM, the Commission said, “The Commission is greatly surprised by this turn of events as notice of the said meeting was sent after office hours on Wednesday the 4th of November 2020. At the time some Commission members were out of Accra and this was communicated to the Leadership of Parliament’.
It then continued that the Chairperson of the Commission has never turned down an invitation of the August House. The Commission and its Leadership view Parliament as an important democratic institution and have always fully cooperated with Honorable Members.”
The EC boss who was billed to brief MPs on the level of preparedness for the impending elections failed to show up forcing Speaker of Parliament Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye to suspend sitting.
