A 19-year-old Level 100 Computer Science student of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Salifu Nkonya Nurudeen, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

According to a news report by 3FM, the 19-year-old student was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the death of his colleague, Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu, by a High Court in Tamale.

The report indicated that Nkonya Nurudeen stabbed Mohammed Zakiu over a dispute involving a girlfriend in September 2024.

The deceased was stabbed in the chest during an altercation with the accused person, and his lifeless body was discovered later on campus.

The family of the deceased initially thought their son had been killed by thieves, but realised that none of his properties had been stolen and raised the suspicion that he might have been targeted.

According to Christopher Amoako, 3FM’s Northern Regional correspondent, the presiding judge, while delivering his judgment, said that despite the age of the accused person, he was jailed for life because his action was in bad faith and caused the loss of a life.
