“Collaborate with us to sustain fight against illegal mining”- Small Scale Miners to Gov’t

“Collaborate with us to sustain fight against illegal mining”- Small Scale Miners to Gov’t

The National Communications Director for the Small Scale Miners Association, Abdul Razak is appealing to the government to use the right approach and aslo collaborate with them to end illegal mining popularly known as ‘Galamsey’

According to the association, this will help sustain the fight against the menace which has destroyed a lot of water bodies in mining communities.

Their call comes on the back of the recent deployment of 200 military personnel to flush out illegal miners destroying water bodies in the country.

“They should stop arresting our members and the burning our excavators. The activities of these national security operatives will not help. They need to engage us to end this galamsey fight,” he told Ohene Addo on Plan B FM’s ‘Nkosuo Nsem’ on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

He also indicated that the association has set up a taskforce to protect its members from illegal miners who have taken up their lands.

“Our taskforce is not meant to attack government security operatives; they are only protecting our members to make sure that illegal miners desist from encroaching on our lands. This taskforce has been in existence since 2013 and 2014”, he intimated.

“We know how these illegal miners operate; we can use our taskforce to help the government to fish them out. We are pleading with the government to collaborate with us at least with some logistics to support the fight against galamsey,” he concluded.
